In Ezekial 28, we see the character, the King of Tyre.
11 The word of the LORD came to me: 12 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
” ‘You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise and beryl.
Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.
It has been suggested that here the LORD is talking about the Lucifer, the enemy of the GOD. I’ve heard that many people have said that the original sin was pride. I know that is a big sin. It is a ’foundational sin’. From this sin comes all other kinds of evil, just like the love of money. But after looking carefully at this passage, what started Lucifer (“The morning star”) on his path towards what he is today was not pride but being out of the will of GOD, out of his anointing. He was created to be a guardian, but he himself wanted to be a tradesman (not sure what kind of trade, but for gain?). He was filled with violence (anger-frustration), probably because he wasn’t doing what GOD made him to do. Try unscrewing something with a hammer, I’m sure frustration and anger will ensue.
His anger rose to a point in his soul, where he ’sinned’. I’m guessing he killed. That was the first sin in him. Remember the words of our LORD in Matthew 8:43-45 (I point this out with outmost humility):
43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!
What does this mean for us regular ol’ people on earth? Be who you are. Who are you? The Creator knows? Your parents who helped create you have a good idea. This is important, worthy of some time, self-examination.
