Our world celebrates winners. Perfect people who single handedly accomplish amazing things. But usually, at what cost? Winners in this world may cheat to win, step on the backs of others, steal, and even kill to attain for themselves whatever it is they desire – money, possessions, women, power, fame, etc…
When we look at the Bible, who do we see? Moses, who performed GOD’s miraculous signs and wonders, to lead GOD’s people. Perhaps he was not the champion we might think him to be. I’ve seen movies that depict his early life to be a grand one; being raised as a prince of Egypt. But perhaps it didn’t go down like that. When he was adopted by Pharoh’s daughter he did not cease to be a Hebrew. She knew it, her father, the Pharoh, knew it. If Pharoh was killing (hate) Hebrew babies at this time, why would he allow his daughter to raise one? Perhaps Moses was raised as ‘a pet’ of sorts. Forgive me for my bluntness. Also his real mother was allowed to raise him to childhood, so she must have told him who he was.
Perhaps he did not have a good life, even in the royal palace. Then there was that little thing; killing a Egyptian soldier. So Moses was a jester of a prince and someone who took away precious life. When he ran away, he lived in Midian. There he lived the life of a shepherd; one of the lowest, dirtiest jobs according to some cultures. The picture I’m getting here of that Moses was something like that of a modern day janitor with a criminal record who had very low esteem from a bad childhood. Sound like a winner? But he did become one. Everyone knows Moses, and he was the leader of the entire people of Israel (2 million?) for the entire rest of his life.
So what happened? What changed? While in Midian, Moses lived with Jethro, priest of Midian. I’m guessing he found GOD. He started his life of faith in Midian. Well, we all know what happened, GOD used Moses in a mighty way.
After reviewing his life and the lives of other people in the Bible, it seems like GOD likes to take broken and humble people and raise them up, raise them up in due time. That makes sense because the GOD of the Bible is not One to condemn easily, but seeks to restore. I wouldn’t trife with the Almighty GOD, El Shaddai.
I don’t think people have to be ‘losers’ for GOD to raise you up, because everyone is broken, imperfect, sinful. But joining hands with Him, by commiting to Him, by saying to Him, “You are my GOD, please be my GOD!” - He will fix you up, and bless you, He will take you to the highest mountain and beyond! GOD has the power! Not He-man. Because He wants the world to know that He is a good GOD, a powerful GOD, of course a just and righteous GOD, but a merciful and gracious GOD that rewards those who seek Him.
Do you know some Christian who you used to think didn’t have it together? That you maybe felt sorry for? But now, he has an incredible life, blessings, joy, and peace. And you wonder how did that happen? GOD took him up. GOD blessed him and is taking care of him. GOD wants you to know He can do the same and maybe more for you!

I’d like to add to this post. After reading the book of Acts. St. Stephen gives a sermon, in which he says Moses was education in the best of Egypt and was powerful in words and action. So this was just a ‘what if’, and actually not based in Biblical fact. Hope this doesn’t offend.
