Love is kind…where are you?

I remember the carefree days of when I used to work at Faith Bookstore on Guam.  It used to be sort of ‘famous’ among Christians as the only Christian bookstore on Guam, for a while.  This was before Amazon.com, Christianbook.com, and others came on the scene.  But I remember a guy, older guy, coming in.  He was probably around fifty, looked like a blue-collar kind of guy, but the most memorable thing was the look of joy and peace this guy had.  He had great enthusiasm, and shot off rounds of questions.  I didn’t catch them all.  Now, after almost six years, I remember one of them.  What does it mean to meditate, or meditate on Scripture?  Now that I think back, that fellow probably just accepted the LORD into his life.  Ha-ha.

Meditation, it’s involves study, because you have to understand it, to think deeply about it.  That’s what meditation is basically, it is thinking deeply and wrestling with some thought/s or idea/s.  It is to turn in over and over again in your mind.  To look at something (idea) from one angle and then turn it and look at it again.  It is examining an idea.

But for what purpose?  I believe it is to change your life.  (more…)

Be the church

Still in the place where I was at the last post…I’m the biblical Jesse James…or something like that.

Lately, I’ve been challenged by other Christian writers on the net.  These writers put forth the idea that the church can be less about the building and more about the people.  One writer says that as much as 83% of a church budget can be spent on church mortgages and internal programs.  83!  If that’s true…

Does a church really need to meet in a fancy church sanctuary?

The jury is still out on this one.  On one hand, places are important.  A sanctuary should be a place where one can feel like their communing with GOD.  It should look holy.  It should draw people based on it’s appearance.  For sure.  But on the other hand, what is wrong with a body of Christ choosing to forego the expensive mortagage and gather publicly or renting out school auditoriums (I’ve seen), meeting in hotels, that sort of thing.  So that the overflow, if there is, could be distributed to people and causes to glorify Christ?

I think spiritual maturity plays a role in all of this.  I think this can be a preference of a body of Christ.  Appearances are more important to some than others.  Are those bodies of Christ with towering beautiful edifices of worship somehow less mature of spiritual than those without.  I can’t say.  Different strokes for different folks I say.  (more…)

The importance of the WORD…

I’ve been absent from the blogosphere for one reason.  My faith.

I’ve been examining church-life, pastors, and trying to see through the eyes of the everyday person regarding these things and not through mine (a person who was churched his whole life).

What I’m going to say may be very wrong.  What I am going to say may hurt somebody.  But selfishly I must release these thoughts, because I’m wrestling with this right now.  If anyone can help, please do and comment.

A friend of mine in Seattle (not religious and very intelligent), and being married to a devout Christian was no doubt well versed in the ways of the church and familiar with Scripture – he said the church should primarily be about teaching.  He cringed at the sight of megachurches and rich churches, well you know what I mean.

Kingdom now…Heaven now!

This is a post after reading a post ‘Heaven when you dead or Kingdom now” by Francis Drake @:

http://francisdrakeprivateer.wordpress.com/

I totally agree that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for now! It is for this life! For you are born again in this life and your new life extends unto eternity with Jesus Christ! GOD wants us to make it Heaven on Earth, is how I’ve heard it said by following the word and example of Jesus Christ. Some things Jesus said are, I maintain ‘heavenly’. Like love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…You heard an eye for an eye but when someone slaps your cheek, turn to them the other cheek to hit too! Jesus Christ is saying by hitting back, you are creating more damage in the world. By giving more cheeks to hit, you are taking the hit like a superman! GOD’s superman! Who will strengthen you? GOD? Yes!  Who will heal you when You are hurt? GOD? Why would GOD do that? Because that’s what He told you to do in His Word so He would take extra good care of you.

In the Bible GOD wants a kindgom of priests.  He wants king-priests like Melchezidek (sp?) or of course, King Jesus.  King Jesus wants a group of kingly people that can represent Him and whom can represent His people.  GOD wants some people to be dispensers of his treasure and property, protectors of the weak, heroes who free the oppressed and emprisoned as stated in Luke 4:18.

Luk 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me; because of this He has anointed Me to proclaim the Good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and new sight to the blind, to set at liberty those having been crushed,

You might say…that’s just Jesus.  Jesus Christ is the perfect example.

Bible study – Luke 23

The Crucifixion

26As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30Then
” ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!”
and to the hills, “Cover us!” 31For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

32Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[e] And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

35The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”

36The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

38There was a written notice above him, which read:|sc THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

40But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

The second theif was accepted in paradise when he confessed that Jesus was the King and that He is GOD.  Even when he was hanging on the cross, so close to his death, by accepting the LORD, he, the theif was then welcomed into heaven.  But why wait that long, those of you who are undecided?

I used to teach high school, and a student once asked me…what if the Bible and the whole ‘religion’ (it’s not, it’s a kindgom under the Lordship of Jesus Christ) is a hoax.  He went to Christian school and was one of the better students, but obviously he wasn’t convinced.  Ha-ha.  Well, it’s a good question.  And after about five years (I haven’t been thinking on this one question that long, really!), I think my answer would be…

(Imaginary conversation)

‘It’s not a hoax’

‘How do you know?  Have you met Jesus?  Have you seen him personally perform a miracle?’

‘No’

‘Then how do you know?  Where does this faith come from?  It seems dumb to me’

*End conversation…with a smile*

That’s how smooth I am of a conversator.  Yup.

All I can say is it’s a spiritual thing.  Like..being in love.  You either know it or you don’t.  It sounds like being in some kind of a club.

*End post*

GOOD NIGHT ALL, and to all a good nite!

Movie Review – Yes Man

I liked it.

Probably because I also believe in ‘the power of yes’.  But, not all opportunites are good opportunities.  Jim Carrey’s movies have lately been extremely insightly in a spiritual way, not just because he did Bruce Almighty, but because he touches on themes of lives being changed for the better, characters changing, love, altruism, heroism, and benevolence and charity and generosity.

Yeah, I’m a fan.

I typed in ‘Jim Carrey Christian’, and I got a video from CBS.  It shows Jim Carrey saying he’s not.  Why do I care if he goes to heaven or not?  I don’t even know him personally.

Well, as in my testimony, and the testimony of many others, Jesus Christ changed my life so much for the better.  I still have struggles in life, but it goes beyond words.  But I pray that Mr. Jim Carrey will accept our LORD Jesus Christ.  Anyone with like heart please also keep this man in prayer.
