Be the light, To Be p.5

Jesus Christ, told us to be the salt and the light.  I’d like to talk about being light this post.  What do the scriptures say?  Let’s see:

14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:14

also:

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. – John 1:3-9

We see that the true light is GOD, Jesus Christ.  So how do we shine Jesus’s light?  Or, how does Jesus’s light shine through us?  We have to abide in Him.  Or, obey His commands.  These commands may come from a book.  But GOD really wants us to obey Him, His spoken Word.  Listen to His Voice and obey.  Listen to the Spirit of the LORD and obey.

In Matthew, GOD says when you shine, He places you in dark places.  Do not be afraid.  The LORD is your shepherd.  In essence, He installs lights around the world to light it up.

True story, a friend of mine, while he was preaching to someone, she saw him all lit up.  So she knew he was a man of GOD who would minister to her.

What is the primary purpose for there being this light?  Light allows us to see, yes.  But GOD says, along with your good deeds, GOD will be praised!

So, light + good deeds (commanded by the Spirit of the LORD) = people coming to the LORD.
